Do you or a loved one have ADHD?
Or maybe you are wondering if it’s a thing?
Most people have a lot of wrong ideas of what ADHD is. The main one being that it isn’t a real thing.
Well, It is! It has been recognized as a real, honest to goodness, diagnosis, by major medical, psychological, and educational organizations.
ADHD Is a result of an imbalance of chemical messengers, neurotransmitters, within the brain.
People don’t just make this up for a pity party, or because they are lazy! 🙂 I do think some people use it as a crutch, but that is their problem, and hopefully an area they will change in. (I have been there, Lol)
That was myth number 1! Onto the next one!
Children outgrow it.
Nope. Not all, anyways!
Up to 50% grow up to have it in adulthood. Around 6% of adults have it.
As you age, you get a little better at hiding it.
It’s also maybe not as noticeable, because we do different things. We tend to notice it in kids, because they are expected to sit still, be quite, and pay attention. (All very good and important character traits.) But when you have attention deficit disorder, that’s very hard for a child to do. An adult is more likely to be able to sit still and at least act like they are paying attention, while their ADD is shown through their leg swinging, (Me big time!) Doodling, (Yuuup) Pencil tapping, and daydreaming. (Oh, yeah, do that ALLL the time!)
There are so many symptoms of ADD, that I might need to do a post for it!
ADHD only affects boys.
We all know that boys think and act a little differently from girls. That’s how God made us.
Boys with ADD, tend to goof off, and be loud and hyper.
And since that is the stereotype, they get noticed more.
ADD tends to show it’s self as anxiety, shyness, or very chatty, in girls.
There is a lot of other differences too, that I will have to share! 🙂
People who have it are stupid or lazy.
Do our brains process and see things a little differently? Yup. But that isn’t stupid.
Do we maybe (or always) procrastinate? (ME) Yes. Is that lazy? I don’t think so!
In fact, many well known people have/had ADD. Like Einstein, Frank Llyod Wright, Henry Ford, Sir Isaac Newton, Agatha Christie, Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison, Virginia Wolf- need I go on? ;p
So there you go! Hope you enjoyed and learned something! Give your ADD person some love! Please comment what you learned!
Have an amazing day!
